I’ve never actually been a fan of running caps, until now! The Soar lightweight running cap is just brilliant and has eliminated everything that I used to dislike about running with a cap on.
I had been invited by Strava to take part in a mile pursuit race at the Night of the 10,000 PBs in London, what an amazing event by the way! Soar had a stand and I was curious to see what they had to offer. I got chatting to the representative and he gave me one of their lightweight running caps. My initial thought was, ‘I’d rather have something I would use’ but not being ungrateful I was pleased to just get something.
I’ve tried caps in the past and every time they have left me with a splitting headache about 5 miles in... I was concerned that this would be the case again but decided I would at least give it a go and I am so glad I did! The sceptic in me assumed this would be a cheaper version of the original since I was given it but I looked it up online and was surprised by two things, firstly that it was the original and secondly by the price! This cap retails for £35 which is more than most other caps on market but after using it I can see why.
This cap is incredibly lightweight and comfortable with perforations along the sides providing great ventilation on hot days. The fabric is thin but durable and quick drying. A small part of the peak has been removed where it touches the forehead and replaced with soft material reducing all pressure on the forehead. The edges are all soft material too and the back is adjusted by an elasticated cord with a variable tension adjuster. All this makes for a really comfortable and snug fit without ‘pressure points’ which were usually the cause of my headaches, it’s almost as if you are not even wearing a cap.
For:
The cap looks great and fits really well (4 colours)
The lightweight fabric is amazing, quick drying and durable
No 'pressure points' or hard edges on your head
Flattens well which makes it great to travel with
Against:
The price is only thing I would change
Conclusion:
This is a great cap that fits extremely well making it incredibly comfortable. I loved how I hardly noticed that I was wearing it and that at no point did I experience any form of headache or discomfort. My only gripe is the price, had I not been given it I’m not sure I would have bought it. Saying that though, now that I have worn it I would pay the £35 for another one if I ever happened to lose it. All in all, love it!!
